YOUNG GRANT MAKERS

Two young women sitting at a table with paper, pens, and highlighters, engaged in a discussion or meeting in a modern office setting.

Many funding decisions in the youth sector are made without the input of young people. At Young Hammersmith & Fulham, we strive to ensure equity is embedded into what we do, and work to ensure that young people have a meaningful say in the decisions that affect them.

A group of children, including a girl wearing a black hijab, are sitting around a table engaged in an activity or discussion in a cafe or workshop space.

By putting young people at the heart of the process, we ensure that funding supports the projects and services that matter most to them.

Guided by our Grants & Partnerships Manager, a panel of Young Grant Makers aged 14-21 (or up to 25 with SEND), are trained to assess real grant applications from local youth organisations or peers. Through workshops and hands-on experience, they learn how to evaluate applications, discuss funding priorities, and make informed decisions as a team.

More than a funding panel, Young H&F’s Young Grant Makers Programme is an opportunity for young people to develop valuable skills in decision-making, teamwork, and financial literacy. They gain hands-on experience in the grantmaking process, build confidence in expressing their opinions, and work collaboratively with their peers. For many, this programme is a stepping stone into leadership roles and future careers in the youth sector and beyond.

The programme has run every year since 2019, with Young Grant Makers being paid for their time, insight and contributions. If a young person in Hammersmith & Fulham who wants to make a difference, watch this space for our next application round!

For more information about our Young Grant Makers Programme please drop our Grants & Partnerships Manager, Sophie, a line – she'll be happy to hear from you!

“As a young person myself, I know what the needs of lots of young people are within the borough. It feels amazing to have the power to fund organisations looking to help those young people.”
